Officers and NCO's are at enormous risk for suicide... why? Because there is a great risk to their careers if they seek help... No, not getting counseling, but truly telling that counselor or another officer/NCO their true risk for suicide. The commander of the base (a general), whom I had never met, told my doctor to kick me out of the Army IMMEDIATELY when he found out I was in trouble. EVERY sailor, soldier, and marine knows that their career is on the line - especially officers and NCO's - if anyone finds out how suicidal they are. For many (most) it seems much better to die than to risk losing their career by getting help. Nothing will change or improve in the suicide rate until THIS is fixed!
